Dragon tea is a play on words—or perhaps in this case, characters. Oolong tea is written 烏龍茶 in traditional Chinese. Remove one character and the result is 龍茶 (dragon tea) . We don’t know Chinese and don’t know if a Chinese speaker would perceive a double meaning. However, the idea that it could be a colorful construction was impossible to resist.
