This somewhat impressionist painting is inspired by two things. The first is a house in St. Augustine that was possibly built before litigation-timid, Levitt-Town-inspired architecture was the rule. A cross between New England and Florida Beach quiche, this house looked like the most comfortable nest. And if the owner were a bird, it would have to be a sandpiper (a bird Florida Beaches would be remiss without). The second was unfortunately a hurricane. Since I didn’t have lawn chairs to worry about, I worked on this painting instead. I had to wait until the storm passed to finish it.
